  • GENMAI-CHA
  • RICE
  • CORN

The veins of the leaf are resected with a very special technique. Peering out from in between the delicate green tea leaves are little grains of popped brown rice and popped corn. They are the main part of this nice green tea with a slightly tart taste and a pleasant flavor. Although highly fragrant, Genmai-cha's aroma is softer than that of Houji-Cha. As with Houji-Cha, pour a generous amount of freshly boiled water into the teapot when preparing. This snap, crackle and pop of Japanese teas is a wonderful 'after-meal drink' for it will leave a clean, fresh flavor on your palate and a warm cozy feeling in your belly.

Also known as the popcorn tea. This tea has a light, golden yellow liquor with a unique, toasty rice flavor tending sweet. A tea that creates conversation. This is a specialty Japanese tea that is blended with fire-toasted rice. During the firing of the rice, it is common for the rice to 'pop' not unlike popcorn, hence the name 'popcorn-tea'. Legend has it that during the 1400's a servant named Genamai was beheaded because some rice fell in a samurai warlord's cup of tea. The warlord drank the brew despite the fact that rice was in his tea. The flavor was very unique and he enjoyed it tremendously. In honor of poor Genami he pronounced that this rice and tea be served every morning and be called 'Genmaicha' (cha being the name of 'tea' in Japanese). Drinking herbal tea, green tea, black tea, rooibos tea or oolong tea regularly has been shown to have many health benefits such as helping to lose weight, boost immunity, reduce stress, decrease cancer risks and reduce chances of getting a heart attack. Many of our customers have said that our teas taste better than Tazo teas, lipton teas, Peet's teas, and Twinings teas. All teas are packaged in polyvinyl bags with a zip lock lining and sealed during the manufacturing process to ensure freshness. The bags will keep the teas fresh for up to one year.
