1 cup flour
1 ½ cup sugar
1 stick (½ cup) butter, room temperature
1 tsp. baking powder
3 medium apples (peeled and sliced)
1 cup milk
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Preheat oven 350°F.
Grease bottom of 9x13 inch pan.
In a big bowl, combine the butter, flour, baking powder and only 1 cup of sugar. Mix the ingredients rubbing your hands together, to create a sandy texture.
Cover the bottom of the pan with half of the mixture. Distribute the apples on top, and then cover the apples with the rest of the mixture.
In a medium bowl, mix the egg, milk and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture evenly on the cake.
Cover the surface with the rest ½ cup of sugar.
Bake for 35-40 minutes.
